ANOTHER MILESTONE ACHIEVED – COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION OF ALL PRECAST ARCH # 4 SEGMENTS
On Friday, May 15, the project team completed the installation of all 65 precast arch segments for Arch #4, which soars 252 feet above Biscayne Boulevard. Each segment is unique and weighs approximately 90 tons. Click HERE to watch a video, and see below for photos from Friday’s operation.
NOTE: Closures will not be scheduled Friday, May 22 through Monday evening, May 25, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.
FULL CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND I-395 AND THE I-95 RAMPS TO WESTBOUND S.R. 836
- Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21 – All westbound Interstate 395 (I-395) lanes at Biscayne Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The I-395 ramps to northbound and southbound I-95 will remain open for drivers using the Downtown Miami ramp to westbound I-395.
Starting at 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., westbound State Road (S.R.) 836 will be closed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue, and the northbound and southbound I-95 ramps to westbound S.R. 836 will also be closed.
These closures are necessary for the installation of pier caps and drilled shaft foundations on westbound S.R. 836 adjacent to the NW 12 Avenue ramp.
- Drivers on westbound I-395 continuing to S.R. 836 can:
- Exit at the Biscayne Boulevard ramp (Exit 2) and continue west on NE 13 Street
- Turn right on NE 1 Avenue, and then turn left on NW 14 Street
- Continue west on NW 14 Street, turn left onto NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
- Downtown Miami drivers heading west to S.R. 836 can:
- Turn right on NE 1 Avenue, and then turn left on NW 14 Street
- Continue west on NW 14 Street, turn left onto NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
- NOTE: Drivers entering the ramp will only have access to northbound and southbound I-95
- Drivers on northbound I-95 heading to westbound S.R. 836 can:
- Exit at NW 2 Street (Exit 2B) and continue north on NW 3 Avenue
- Turn left on NW 3 Street, then turn right on NW North River Drive
- Go north on NW 7 Avenue, then turn onto NW 8 Street Road
- Turn left on NW 11 Street and then left on NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
- Drivers on southbound I-95 heading to westbound S.R. 836 can:
- Exit at the NW 14 Street ramp, continue west to NW 12 Avenue
- Turn left at NW 12 Avenue, then turn right on NW 7 Street
- Continue on NW 7 Street, then turn right at NW 17 Avenue to access the westbound S.R. 836 entrance ramp

I-95 LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, May 20, Thursday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 – Up to four lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.
- Wednesday, May 20, Thursday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 – Up to four lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.
NW 17 STREET NIGHTTIME FULL CLOSURE UNDER I-95
- Wednesday, May 20, Thursday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 – All travel lanes on NW 17 Street under I-95 will be closed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to allow the contractor to move a crane across the roadway. Drivers can use NW 20 Street as an alternate route.
I-395 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Drainage work along Biscayne Boulevard from NE 14 Street to NE 11 Terrace and on NE 13 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to NE 2 Avenu
- Construction of signature bridge arch foundations east of Biscayne Boulevard and west of NE 2 Avenue
- Nighttime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours over the FEC railway
- Daytime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours on NW 14 Street from NW 1 Place to NW 3 Avenue
- Saturday morning sheet pile driving operations adjacent to the Biscayne Boulevard ramp to eastbound MacArthur Causeway

FULL CLOSURE OF BISCAYNE BOULEVARD FOR NIGHTTIME INSTALLATION OF AUGER CAST PILES
Wednesday, May 20 through June 10 – Crews are installing auger-cast piles in the area shown above for temporary support towers. Work will occur nightly, Sunday through Thursday, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
This operation must take place at night because it will require the full closure of Biscayne Boulevard from NE 11 Street to NE 13 Street, as noted below. Every effort will be made to minimize noise; however, nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels during these activities.
All travel lanes on Biscayne Boulevard will be closed from NE 11 Street to NE 13 Street between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
- Drivers on southbound Biscayne Boulevard can:
- Turn right on NE 13 Street and then turn left on NE 2 Avenue
- Turn left on NE 11 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard
- Drivers on northbound Biscayne Boulevard can:

NW 2 AVENUE DETOUR
- Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29 – NW 2 Avenue will be closed from NW 13 Street to NW 14 Street between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for drainage work. Drivers should follow the posted detour routes.
S.R. 836 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Nighttime installation of bridge pier cap segments and beams for the S.R. 836 double-decked roadway

- Chipping concrete from auger cast piles for foundation construction between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
- Foundation construction on the S.R. 836 median and adjacent roadways from NW 12 Avenue to I-95 for the new double-decked roadway

- Wednesday, May 20, Thursday, May 21 and Monday, May 25 through Friday, May 29 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The closure on Monday, May 25 will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:- Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
- Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
- Turn right at South Miami Avenue
- Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
- Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace
Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.
