EXTENDED FULL CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE AND TEMPORARY CHANGE OF DRAWBRIDGE OPERATION SCHEDULE
COMPLETE CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE
Saturday, July 11 through Sunday, July 12 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, to safely place formwork for a bridge support structure over the roadway. Additionally, two westbound S.R. 836 lanes will be closed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue between 11:45 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:
- Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
- Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
- Turn right at South Miami Avenue
- Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
- Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace
Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.
STATE ROAD (S.R.) 968/WEST FLAGLER STREET AND SW 1 STREET BRIDGES NOTICE OF TEMPORARY CHANGE TO THE DRAWBRIDGE OPERATING SCHEDULE
The Florida Department of Transportation is authorized to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operation according to regulation 33 CFR 117.305(b) which governs the SW 1 Street Bridge, mile 0.9, and the West Flagler Street Bridge, mile 1.0, across the Miami River.
Under this temporary deviation, the SW 1st Street and the West Flagler Street bridges are allowed to operate as follows:
- From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., on Sunday, July 12, the bridges will open on the hour and half-hour.
At all other times, the bridges will operate per their normal operating regulation. Public vessels of the United States, tugs, tugs with tow, and vessels in distress shall be passed at any time. This authorization is in support of the S.R. 836 highway closure. The U.S. Coast Guard will announce the temporary change to the bridge operating regulations in the Local Notice to Mariners and via a Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
I-95 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

- Concrete pavement replacement on I-95 between NW 8 Street and NW 17 Street
- Widening of the southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street

I-95 LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, July 8 through Friday, July 10 and Sunday, July 12 through Friday, July 17 – Up to two lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 8 through Friday, July 10 and Sunday, July 12 through Friday, July 17 – Up to two lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
NORTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO WESTBOUND S.R. 836 DETOUR
- Thursday, July 9 – The northbound I-95 ramp to westbound S.R. 836 will be closed between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
- Go north on I-95, then exit at NW 62 Street
- Turn left at NW 62 Street to access the southbound I-95 ramp
- Use the southbound I-95 exit to westbound S.R. 836 (Exit 3A)

SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO NW 14 STREET DETOUR
- Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16 – The southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street will be closed for asphalt paving operation between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Lanes will also be closed at the intersection of NW 10 Avenue and NW 14 Street.
- Drivers can:
- Continue west on S.R. 836 and exit at NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 12 Avenue to connect with NW 14 Street

NW 17 STREET NIGHTTIME FULL CLOSURE UNDER I-95
- Wednesday, July 8 through Friday, July 10 – All travel lanes on NW 17 Street under I-95 will be closed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to allow the contractor to safely work on a new bridge over the roadway. Drivers can use NW 20 Street as an alternate route.
I-395 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Drainage work along Biscayne Boulevard from NE 14 Street to NE 11 Terrace and on NE 13 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to NE 2 Avenu
- Construction of signature bridge arch foundations east of Biscayne Boulevard and west of NE 2 Avenue
- Nighttime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours over the FEC railway
- Daytime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours on NW 14 Street from NW 1 Place to NW 3 Avenue
- Saturday morning sheet pile driving operations adjacent to the Biscayne Boulevard ramp to eastbound MacArthur Causeway
- Nighttime drilling of auger cast piles in the Biscayne Boulevard median just north of I-395
- Roadway operations on I-395 from MacArthur Causeway to I-95
- Nighttime arch construction work over Biscayne Boulevard requiring full closures from NE 13 Street to NE 11 Terrace
- Construction of temporary arch support towers in the median and adjacent to Biscayne Boulevard
