DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT MILESTONE REACHED ON NE 13 STREET
The project team successfully completed another major phase of the ongoing drainage improvements along NE 13 Street between Biscayne Boulevard and NE 2 Avenue. This phase required several temporary lane closures, including continuous weekend closures, to allow crews to install new drainage pipes and structures beneath the roadway. A concrete culvert was successfully installed this past weekend, marking the completion of this phase of work.
The newly installed drainage elements are part of a larger stormwater enhancement initiative being constructed throughout the project corridor. Once the overall drainage system is complete and fully operational, it will replace the existing gravity-based system with a more efficient pump-assisted system designed to better manage stormwater and help reduce flooding in the area. Completion of this phase represents another significant milestone toward the project’s long-term drainage improvements. Photos below highlight this weekend’s operation.
I-95 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

I-95 LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – Up to two lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – Up to two lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
NORTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO EASTBOUND I-395 DETOUR
- Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4 – The northbound I-95 ramp to eastbound I-395 will be closed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
- Exit at the NW 2 Street ramp (Exit 2B)
- Continue north on NW 3 Avenue, then turn right on NW 8 Street
- Continue east on NW/NE 8 Street
- Turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to access A1A North/Miami Beach

SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO EASTBOUND I-395 DETOUR
- Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4 – The southbound I-95 ramp to eastbound I-395 will be closed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
- Continue south on I-95, exit at the NW 8 Street ramp (Exit 3B)
- Turn left on NW 8 Street, continue east on NW 8 Street
- Turn left at Biscayne Boulevard to access the A1A North/Miami Beach Ramp

NW 8 STREET RAMP TO NORTHBOUND I-95 CLOSURE
- Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4 – The NW 8 Street ramp to northbound I-95 will be closed between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
- Go east on NW 8 Street
- Turn left on NE 1 Avenue,
- Enter the westbound I-395 ramp to access northbound I-95

I-395 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Drainage work along Biscayne Boulevard from NE 14 Street to NE 11 Terrace and on NE 13 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to NE 2 Avenue
- Construction of signature bridge arch foundations east of Biscayne Boulevard and west of NE 2 Avenue
- Reinforcing steel installation and ongoing concrete pours for the westbound signature bridge roadway deck
- Daytime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours on NW 14 Street from NW 1 Place to NW 3 Avenue
- Roadway operations on I-395 from MacArthur Causeway to I-95
- Nighttime arch construction work over Biscayne Boulevard requiring full closures from NE 13 Street to NE 11 Terrace
- Construction of columns and installation of bridge beams from NW 1 Avenue to I-95

FULL CLOSURE OF BISCAYNE BOULEVARD FROM NE 11 STREET TO NE 13 STREET
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – All travel lanes on Biscayne Boulevard will be closed from NE 11 Street to NE 13 Street between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days. Biscayne Boulevard and NE 2 Avenue will not be closed during the same time period.
- Drivers on southbound Biscayne Boulevard can:
- Turn right on NE 13 Street and then turn left on NE 2 Avenue
- Turn left on NE 11 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard

LANE CLOSURES ON NE 13 STREET
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 – Two lanes on NE 13 Street will be closed from Biscayne Boulevard and NE 2 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for roadway work.
S.R. 836 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Nighttime installation of bridge pier cap segments and beams for the S.R. 836 double-decked roadway from NW 12 Avenue to I-95 and adjacent to the Miami River
- Construction of straddle bent support structure over eastbound S.R. 836 just west of NW 7 Avenue
- Driving/removing steel sheets into the ground in the S.R. 836 median between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
- Foundation construction on the S.R. 836 median and adjacent roadways from NW 12 Avenue to I-95 for the new double-decked roadway
- Construction of double-decked roadway support piers at the core of the interchange

- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – Two westbound lanes on S.R. 836 from I-95 to NW 17 Avenue will be closed as needed for bridge work between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
COMPLETE CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:- Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
- Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
- Turn right at South Miami Avenue
- Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
- Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace
Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.
FULL CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND S.R. 836
- Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 and Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 7 – All westbound lanes on S.R. 836 will be closed as needed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days. Drivers can:
- Exit at the NW 12 Avenue ramp, then turn left on NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 7 Street
