Weekly Project Update – I-395/S.R. 836/I-95 Design-Build Project – July 15, 2026

STRADDLE BENT FORMWORK ERECTED THIS PAST WEEKEND

The photos and video below show the successful erection of formwork for the final straddle bent support structure on eastbound S.R. 836, which will span the full width of the roadway. The formwork measures 134 feet long and weighs approximately 266,000 pounds. The operation required two heavy-lift cranes and the delivery of approximately 26 truckloads of limerock to construct a temporary crane pad. Once the work was complete, the material was removed, the roadway was cleaned, and all lanes reopened to traffic Sunday morning. The next step in the construction of the straddle bent will involve the assembly and installation of a reinforcing steel cage in preparation for the concrete pour.

CONCRETE POUR FOR SIGNATURE BRIDGE ARCH FOUNDATION

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 17, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, the project contractor will be pouring concrete at the arch foundation shown in the photo above. The following closures will be implemented to allow the approximately 425 trucks to deliver concrete to the site safely. Every effort will be made to minimize noise as much as possible; however, nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels.

DETOUR INFORMATION:

• At 10 p.m. on Friday, July 17, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, all lanes on southbound North Bayshore Drive will be closed from NE 14 Street to NE 13 Street. Drivers on southbound North Bayshore Drive can turn right on NE 15 Street or NE 14 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard.
   
• All lanes on NE 13 Street will be closed from southbound North Bayshore Drive to Biscayne Boulevard starting at 10 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m. on Saturday. Up to two lanes will remain closed until 6 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic will be momentarily stopped to allow trucks to access the work zone. Drivers can:
  • Turn right on northbound North Bayshore Drive
  • Turn left on NE 14 Street or NE 15 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard
     
• On Friday, all travel lanes on Biscayne Boulevard will be closed from NE 11 Street to NE 13 Street from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. The right northbound lane will remain closed until 6 p.m.
  • Drivers on southbound Biscayne Boulevard can:
    • Turn right on NE 13 Street and then turn left on NE 2 Avenue
    • Turn left on NE 11 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard
  • Drivers on northbound Biscayne Boulevard can:
    • Turn left on NE 11 Street and then turn right on NE 1 Avenue
    • Turn right on NE 14 Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard

I-95 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

I-95 LANE CLOSURES

• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – Up to two lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
   
• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – Up to two lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

NORTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO EASTBOUND I-395 DETOUR

• Wednesday, July 15 and Sunday, July 19 – The northbound I-95 ramp to eastbound I-395 will be closed between the hours of 10  p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
  • Exit at the NW 2 Street ramp (Exit 2B)
  • Continue north on NW 3 Avenue, then turn right on NW 8 Street
  • Continue east on NW/NE 8 Street
  • Turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to access A1A North/Miami Beach

NORTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO WESTBOUND S.R. 836 DETOUR

• Wednesday, July 15, Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 – The northbound I-95 ramp to westbound S.R. 836 will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
  • Go north on I-95, then exit at NW 62 Street
  • Turn left at NW 62 Street to access the southbound I-95 ramp
  • Use the southbound I-95 exit to westbound S.R. 836 (Exit 3A)

SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO NW 14 STREET DETOUR

• Thursday, July 16 and Sunday, July 19 – The southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street will be closed for asphalt paving operation between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Lanes will also be closed at the intersection of NW 10 Avenue and NW 14 Street.
  • Drivers can:
    • Continue west on S.R. 836 and exit at NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 12 Avenue to connect with NW 14 Street

NW 17 STREET NIGHTTIME FULL CLOSURE UNDER I-95

• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – All travel lanes on NW 17 Street under I-95 will be closed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to allow the contractor to safely work on a new bridge over the roadway. Drivers can use NW 20 Street as an alternate route.

CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND I-395 AT BISCAYNE BOULEVARD AND THE DOWNTOWN RAMP TO I-395

Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16 – Drivers should expect overnight closures of westbound I-395 and the downtown Miami entrance ramp to I-395 from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to allow crews to safely deliver and erect bridge beams. Closure times may be adjusted to accommodate special events.

Westbound I-395 Closure at Biscayne Boulevard Detour: 

• Exit at the Biscayne Boulevard ramp, and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard
• Continue south on Biscayne Boulevard, then turn right on NE 6 Street
• Continue east on NE/NW 6 Street and turn left on NW 7 Avenue
• Turn right on NW South River Drive onto NW 7 Street
• Turn right on NW 17 Avenue to access the ramp to westbound S.R. 836

Drivers continuing to I-95 can:

• Exit at the Biscayne Boulevard ramp, and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard
• Continue south on Biscayne Boulevard and turn right on NE 6 Street
• Turn right on NW 3 Avenue to access the NORTHBOUND I-95 RAMP or
• Turn left on NW 3 Court to access the SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP

Downtown Ramp to Westbound I-395 Detour:

• Drivers heading north on I-95 can:
  • Go north on NE 1 Avenue, then turn left on NE 14 Street
  • Turn left on North Miami Avenue, turn right on NW 8 Street
  • Turn right on NW 3 Avenue to access the ramp to northbound I-95
• Drivers heading south on I-95 can:
  • Go north on NE 1 Avenue, then turn left on NE 14 Street
  • Turn left on North Miami Avenue, turn right on NW 8 Street
  • Turn left on NW 3 Court to access the ramp to southbound I-95
• Drivers heading west on S.R. 836 can:
  • Go north on NE 1 Avenue, then turn left on NE 14 Street
  • Continue on west on NW 14 Street, then make a slight left at NW 13 Terrace
  • Turn right on NW North River Drive, then turn left on NW 17 Avenue
  • Go over the Miami River Bridge and access the ramp to westbound S.R. 836

DAYTIME FULL CLOSURE OF NW 14 STREET

• Through Monday, September 1 – NW 14 Street from NW 3 Avenue to NW 1 Place will be closed Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., to erect precast roadway segments. Drivers and pedestrians can use the detours shown here.
  • Drivers on eastbound NW 14 Street can:
    • Turn right on NW 3 Avenue, then turn left on NW 13 Street
    • Turn left on NW 1 Place to connect with NW 14 Street
  • Drivers on westbound NW 14 Street can:
    • Turn right on NW 1 Place, then turn left on NW 16 Street

• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – Up to two lanes on mainline westbound I-395 will be closed as needed from Biscayne Boulevard to I-95 between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

FULL CLOSURE OF NE 2 AVENUE

• Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16 – All lanes on NE 2 Avenue will be closed between NE 13 Street and I-395 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. for concrete pours over the roadway. 
  • Drivers on southbound NE 2 Avenue can:
    • Turn left on NE 14 Street, then turn right on Biscayne Boulevard
    • Turn right on NE 11 Street to connect with NE 2 Avenue

S.R. 836 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

• Nighttime installation of bridge pier cap segments and beams for the S.R. 836 double-decked roadway

• Construction of straddle bent over eastbound S.R. 836 just west of NW 7 Avenue
• Driving steel sheets into the ground in the S.R. 836 median between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue

COMPLETE CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE

• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
  The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:
  • Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
  • Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
  • Turn right at South Miami Avenue
  • Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
  • Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace

Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.

• Wednesday, July 15 through Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24 – All westbound lanes on S.R. 836 will be closed as needed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.   • Exit at the NW 12 Avenue ramp, then turn left on NW 12 Avenue

• Sunday, July 19 and Monday, July 20 – The northbound NW 17 Avenue entrance ramp to westbound S.R. 836 will be closed between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for lighting maintenance. Drivers can:
  • Go west on NW 7 Street, turn right on NW 27 Avenue
  • Continue north on NW 27 Avenue to access the westbound S.R. 836 entrance ramp
