Holiday Construction Update – Independence Day Weekend
To help ease holiday travel during America’s 250th Anniversary celebration, all construction-related lane and ramp closures will be suspended from Thursday, July 2, through midnight Sunday evening, July 5.
As you travel, please drive safely, remain alert in construction areas, and enjoy a safe and happy Independence Day weekend from the entire Connecting Miami Project Team!
I-95 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
- Installation of Intelligent Transportation System devices
- Concrete pavement replacement on I-95 between NW 8 Street and NW 17 Street
- Widening of the southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street
- Installation of new guardrail from NW 17 Street to NW 8 Street
- Traffic railing retrofit on several bridges
I-95 LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – Up to two lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closure will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – Up to two lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closure will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
I-395 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

- Nighttime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours over the FEC railway
- Daytime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours on NW 14 Street from NW 1 Place to NW 3 Avenue
- Saturday morning sheet pile driving operations adjacent to the Biscayne Boulevard ramp to eastbound MacArthur Causeway
- Nighttime drilling of auger cast piles in the Biscayne Boulevard median just north of I-395
- Roadway operations on I-395 from MacArthur Causeway to I-95
- Nighttime arch construction work over Biscayne Boulevard requiring full closures from NE 13 Street to NE 11 Terrace
- Construction of temporary arch support towers in the median and adjacent to Biscayne Boulevard
- Construction of columns from NW 1 Avenue to I-95
NOTE: Nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels during these activities. All efforts are being made to minimize noise levels to the fullest extent possible.
I-395 MAINLINE LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – One lane on mainline eastbound I-395 will be closed as needed from I-95 to Biscayne Boulevard between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – Up to two lanes on mainline westbound I-395 will be closed as needed from Biscayne Boulevard to I-95 between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
LANE CLOSURES ON WESTBOUND MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY
- Monday, July 6 – Two lanes on the westbound MacArthur Causeway will be closed from just west of the Port Tunnel to I-395 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
S.R. 836 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
S.R. 836 double-decked roadway
NW 12 Avenue ramp to eastbound S.R. 836
- Nighttime installation of bridge pier cap segments and beams for the S.R. 836 double-decked roadway
NOTE: Nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels during these activities. All efforts are being made to minimize noise levels to the fullest extent possible. - Construction of straddle bent over eastbound S.R. 836 just west of NW 7 Avenue
- Driving steel sheets into the ground in the S.R. 836 median between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
- Chipping concrete from auger cast piles for foundation construction between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
- Foundation construction on the S.R. 836 median and adjacent roadways from NW 12 Avenue to I-95 for the new double-decked roadway
- Construction of double-decked piers at the core of the interchange
S.R. 836 LANE CLOSURES
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – Two eastbound lanes on S.R. 836 from NW 17 Avenue to I-95 will be closed as needed for bridge work between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closure will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – Two westbound lanes on S.R. 836 from I-95 to NW 17 Avenue will be closed as needed for bridge work between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closure will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.
COMPLETE CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The closure on Friday will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:- Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
- Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
- Turn right at South Miami Avenue
- Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
- Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace
Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.
FULL CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND S.R. 836
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – All westbound lanes on S.R. 836 will be closed as needed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closure will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days. Drivers can:
- Exit at the NW 12 Avenue ramp, then turn left on NW 12 Avenue
- Turn right on NW 7 Street
- Turn right on NW 17 Avenue and continue north to connect with the westbound S.R. 836 ramp

NIGHTTIME CLOSURE OF NW SOUTH RIVER DRIVE UNDER S.R. 836 FOR BRIDGE WORK
- Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10 – NW South River Drive will be closed under S.R. 836 between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to allow the project contractor to perform work on the bridge over the roadway. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
