Weekly Project Update – I-395/S.R. 836/I-95 Design-Build Project – January 14, 2026

FULL CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND I-395 AND THE I-95 RAMPS TO WESTBOUND S.R. 836

• Wednesday, January 14 (Alternate date is Thursday, January 15) – All westbound I-395 travel lanes will be closed at Biscayne Boulevard between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The I-395 ramps to northbound and southbound I-95 will remain open. In addition, the northbound and southbound I-95 ramps to westbound S.R. 836 will also be closed during the same time frame. The closures are necessary for bridge joint repairs on westbound S.R. 836 just west of I-95.
  • Drivers on westbound I-395 continuing to S.R. 836 can:
    • Exit at the Biscayne Boulevard ramp (Exit 2) and continue west on NE 13 Street
    • Turn right on NE 1 Avenue, and then turn left on NW 14 Street
    • Continue west on NW 14 Street, turn left onto NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
  • Downtown Miami drivers heading west to S.R. 836 can:
    • Turn right on NE 1 Avenue, and then turn left on NW 14 Street
    • Continue west on NW 14 Street, turn left onto NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
    • NOTE: Drivers entering the ramp will only have access to northbound and southbound I-95
  • Drivers on northbound I-95 heading to westbound S.R. 836 can:
    • Exit at NW 2 Street (Exit 2B) and continue north on NW 3 Avenue
    • Turn left on NW 3 Street, then turn right on NW North River Drive
    • Go north on NW 7 Avenue, then turn onto NW 8 Street Road
    • Turn left on NW 11 Street and then left on NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 7 Street, then right on NW 17 Avenue to access the S.R. 836 entrance ramp
  • Drivers on southbound I-95 heading to westbound S.R. 836 can:
    • Exit at the NW 14 Street ramp, continue west to NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn left at NW 12 Avenue, then turn right on NW 7 Street
    • Continue on NW 7 Street, then turn right at NW 17 Avenue to access the westbound S.R. 836 entrance ramp

I-95 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

• Installation of Intelligent Transportation System devices
• Concrete pavement replacement on I-95 between NW 8 Street and NW 17 Street
• Widening of the southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street
• Installation of new guardrail from NW 8 Street to NW 17 Street
• Traffic railing retrofit on several bridges

I-95 LANE CLOSURES

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Up to four lanes on southbound I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.
   
• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Up to four lanes on northbound I-95 will be closed as needed from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.

SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO NW 8 STREET DETOUR

• Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – The southbound I-95 ramp to NW 8 Street will be closed as needed between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers can:
  • Continue south on I-95, then exit at the SW 7 Street/Brickell Avenue (Exit 1B) ramp
  • Continue to SW 8 Street, then turn left to access the northbound I-95 ramp
  • Continue north on I-95 and exit at the NW 2 Street/Arena (Exit 2B) ramp
  • Continue north on NW 3 Avenue to connect with NW 8 Street

SOUTHBOUND I-95 RAMP TO NW 14 STREET DETOUR

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – The southbound I-95 ramp to NW 14 Street will be closed as needed for materials delivery between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Drivers can:
    • Continue west on S.R. 836 and exit at NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 12 Avenue to connect with NW 14 Street

NW 17 STREET NIGHTTIME FULL CLOSURE UNDER I-95

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – All travel lanes on NW 17 Street under I-95 will be closed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to allow the contractor to work on the bridge over the roadway. Drivers can use NW 20 Street as an alternate route.

I-395 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

• Drainage work along Biscayne Boulevard from NE 14 Street to NE 11 Terrace and on NE 13 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to NE 2 Avenue
• Daytime/nighttime construction of signature bridge arch foundations east of Biscayne Boulevard and west of NE 2 Avenue
• Nighttime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours from east of North Miami Avenue to NW 3 Avenue
• Saturday morning sheet pile driving operations adjacent to the Biscayne Boulevard ramp to eastbound MacArthur Causeway
  NOTE: Nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels during these activities. All efforts are being made to minimize noise levels to the fullest extent possible.
• Routine daytime and nighttime testing of ACP foundations
• Ongoing placement of precast arch segments
• Nighttime and daytime roadway operations on I-395 from MacArthur Causeway to I-95
• Arch construction work over Biscayne Boulevard requiring full closures from NE 13 Street to NE 11 Terrace
• Construction of temporary foundation in the median and adjacent to Biscayne Boulevard for support towers
• Construction of foundations, piers and pier caps from North Miami Avenue to the west of NW 3 Avenue

I-395 MAINLINE LANE CLOSURES

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – One lane on mainline eastbound I-395 will be closed as needed from I-95 to Biscayne Boulevard between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
   
• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Up to two lanes on mainline westbound I-395 will be closed as needed from Biscayne Boulevard to I-95 between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

FULL CLOSURE OF BISCAYNE BOULEVARD, NE 13 STREET AND SOUTHBOUND NORTH BAYSHORE DRIVE

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – The following closures will be implemented between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. for drainage improvement work. Daytime lane closures will also be necessary at times. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
  • All northbound and southbound lanes on Biscayne Boulevard from NE 14 Street to NE 11 Terrace
  • All lanes on NE 13 Street from N Bayshore Drive to NE 2 Avenue
  • All southbound lanes on North Bayshore Drive from NE 14 Street to NE 13 Street

LANE CLOSURES ON NE 2 AVENUE

• Wednesday, January 14 – All lanes on NE 2 Avenue will be closed between NE 13 Street and I-395 between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
  • Drivers on southbound NE 2 Avenue can:
    • Turn left on NE 14 Street, then turn right on Biscayne Boulevard
    • Turn right on NE 11 Street to connect with NE 2 Avenue
  • Drivers exiting I-395 can:
    • Continue east on NE 11 Terrace, then turn left on Biscayne Boulevard
    • Turn left on NE 14 Street to connect with NE 2 Avenue

• Thursday, January 15, Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Up to two lanes on southbound and northbound NE 2 Avenue from NE 13 Street to I-395 will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Drivers will be diverted around the work zone.

FULL CLOSURE NW 3 AVENUE

• Thursday, January 15 – NW 3 Avenue will be closed from NW 14 Street to NW 15 Street between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Drivers and pedestrians can use the detours shown here.
  • Drivers on northbound NW 3 Avenue can:
    • Turn right on NW 14 Street, then turn left on NW 1 Avenue
    • Turn left on NW 16 Street to connect with NW 3 Avenue
  • Drivers on southbound NW 3 Avenue can:
    • Turn left on NW 16 Street, then turn right on NW 2 Avenue
    • Turn left on NW 15 Street, then turn right on NW 1 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 14 Street to connect with NW 3 Avenue

S.R. 836 ONGOING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

• Nighttime installation of bridge pier cap segments and beams for the S.R. 836 double-decked roadway from NW 17 Avenue to the Miami River.
  NOTE: Nearby residents and businesses may experience periods of higher-than-normal noise levels during these activities. All efforts are being made to minimize noise levels to the fullest extent possible.
• Construction of straddle bent over eastbound S.R. 836 just west of NW 7 Avenue
• Driving steel sheets into the ground in the S.R. 836 median between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
• Chipping concrete from auger cast piles for foundation construction between NW 12 Avenue and NW 7 Avenue
• Foundation construction on the S.R. 836 median and adjacent roadways from NW 12 Avenue to I-95 for the new double-decked roadway
• Pier construction activities in the Miami River east bank between the shoreline and the fendering system
• Pier construction at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building parking area
• Ongoing casting of bridge caps
• Construction of double-decked piers at the core of the interchange

COMPLETE CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND SR 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – All eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to work on overhead bridge support structures safely. The closure on Fridays will be implemented between 11:45 p.m. and 7 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
  The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area. Drivers on eastbound SR 836 will: 
  • Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
  • Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
  • Turn right at South Miami Avenue
  • Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
  • Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causeway can continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace

Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound S.R. 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.

FULL CLOSURE OF WESTBOUND S.R. 836

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – All westbound lanes on S.R. 836 will be closed as needed from NW 12 Avenue to NW 17 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The closure on Fridays will be implemented between 11:45 p.m. and 7 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days.
  • Drivers on westbound S.R. 836 can:
    • Exit at the NW 12 Avenue ramp, then turn left on NW 12 Avenue
    • Turn right on NW 7 Street
    • Turn right on NW 27 Avenue and continue north to connect with the westbound S.R. 836 ramp

S.R. 836 LANE CLOSURES

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Two eastbound lanes on S.R. 836 from NW 17 Avenue to I-95 will be closed as needed for bridge work between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m.
   
• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Two westbound lanes on S.R. 836 from I-95 to NW 17 Avenue will be closed as needed for bridge work between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The Friday closures will be implemented between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m.

DAYTIME SOUTHBOUND S.R. 7/U.S. 441/NW 7 AVENUE LANE CLOSURE

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – One lane on southbound NW 7 Avenue will be closed from NW 14 Street to NW 15 Street between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The second southbound lane will be shifted to the east side of the roadway around the work zone.

LANE CLOSURES ALONG THE INTERSECTION OF NW 10 AVENUE AND NW 14 STREET

• Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16, and Tuesday, January 20 through Friday, January 23 – Single and double lane closures will be implemented as needed at the intersection of NW 10 Avenue and NW 14 Street between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The lane closures are necessary to safely install new signalization equipment.
