RESCHEDULED: EXTENDED FULL CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND S.R. 836 AT NW 17 AVENUE AND TEMPORARY CHANGE OF DRAWBRIDGE OPERATION SCHEDULE
The extended full closure of eastbound S.R. 836 at NW 17 Avenue originally scheduled for last night, Friday, October 10, has been rescheduled due to weather.
The new schedule for this operation is:
- Friday, October 17 from 11:30 p.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, October 18
Additional backup dates, if needed, are as follows:
- Saturday, October 18 from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, October 19
- Friday, October 24 from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25
During this time, all eastbound S.R. 836 travel lanes will be closed at NW 17 Avenue to safely place the steel reinforcing cage into the formwork for a straddle bent (bridge support structure) over the roadway. The detours noted below and shown here will be in place to guide drivers around the work area.
Drivers on eastbound S.R. 836 will:
- Exit at NW 17 Avenue, then continue south across NW 7 Street
- Turn left at SW 1 Street and continue east
- Turn right at South Miami Avenue
- Turn right to access the ramp to I-95 north or south
- Drivers going to Biscayne Boulevard and the MacArthur Causewaycan continue east on SW 1 Street and turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to connect with the MacArthur Causeway entrance ramp at NE 11 Terrace
Drivers on NW 12 Avenue wanting to access eastbound SR 836, I-95, Biscayne Boulevard, and the MacArthur Causeway can continue south on NW 12 Avenue, turn left at SW 1 Street, and follow the detours above.
STATE ROAD (S.R.) 968/WEST FLAGLER STREET AND SW 1 STREET BRIDGES NOTICE OF TEMPORARY CHANGE TO THE DRAWBRIDGE OPERATING SCHEDULE
The Florida Department of Transportation is authorized to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operation according to regulation 33 CFR 117.305(b) which governs the SW 1st Street Bridge, mile 0.9, and the West Flagler Street Bridge, mile 1.0, across the Miami River.
Under this temporary deviation, the SW 1st Street and the West Flagler Street bridges are allowed to operate as follows:
From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., the bridges will open on the hour and half-hour on the following dates:
- Saturday, October 18, 2025
- Sunday, October 19, 2025
- Saturday, October 25, 2025
At all other times, the bridges will operate per their normal operating regulation. Public vessels of the United States, tugs, tugs with tow, and vessels in distress shall be passed at any time. This authorization is in support of the SR 836 highway closure. The U.S. Coast Guard will announce the temporary change to the bridge operating regulations in the Local Notice to Mariners and via a Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
FULL CLOSURE OF NORTHBOUND I-95 AT NW 8 STREET FOR OVERHEAD BRIDGE WORK
- Sunday, October 12 through Wednesday, October 15 – All northbound I-95 lanes will be closed just north of NW 8 Street from 11:45 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The ramp to westbound SR 836 will also be closed during this time frame. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days. Drivers can:
- Access the eastbound Interstate 395 (I-395) ramp, then exit at NE 2 Avenue/Biscayne Boulevard (Exit 2B)
- Turn right at NE 2 Avenue, then turn right at NE 11 Street
- Turn right at NE 1 Avenue, then access the ramp to I-395 to continue north on I-95 or west on SR 836

NW 8 STREET RAMP TO NORTHBOUND I-95 CLOSURE
- Sunday, October 12 through Wednesday, October 15 – The NW 8 Street ramp to northbound I-95 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The start and end times will be adjusted on special event days. Drivers can:
- Go east on NW 8 Street
- Turn left on NE 1 Avenue
- Enter the westbound I-395 ramp to access northbound I-95
