The project team recently reached another major milestone with the successful completion of the foundation pour for Signature Bridge Arch #6, located adjacent to the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. This was the second-largest concrete and most complex foundation pour of the entire project and represents a significant step toward construction of one of the two remaining arches.
The foundation measures 120 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 16 feet deep, and required approximately 3,672 cubic yards of concrete, delivered by 408 concrete trucks, placed by four concrete pumps (with a fifth on standby). To ensure the concrete cures properly, crews installed an advanced cooling system consisting of more than 30,000 feet of tubing circulating chilled water from a large industrial chiller, with a backup chiller on site for redundancy.
